In You Are Not Alone: A Recovery Coach's Journey From Addiction To Advocacy, Amy Sprague describes how a reliance on substances slowly turns into a life governed by fear and physical need. Using her own experiences, she shows how her attempts to quit alone repeatedly failed as addiction reshapes one's daily habits and isolates the person from those able to help. The book follows the moment she accepts that change requires outside support, then moves into the early days of recovery, where each day is built around the renewed decision to remain sober. As trust is gradually rebuilt, Sprague shows what it means to live after addiction and how recovery becomes a continuing practice instead of a single event.

Amy Sprague’s You Are Not Alone is a conversationally written and accessible guide to addiction recovery, and the author speaks from the heart and her own experiences. This is such an important book because it addresses the isolation that often keeps addiction hidden, and shows that recovery begins with what might be the most difficult thing for anyone to do: ask for help. Sprague goes further than pure discussion and gives readers the tools to help along the journey. Her “play the tape forward” method gives readers a way to pause during cravings, and her insistence on daily check-ins builds a routine that supports sober decisions each morning. This is a great book for readers facing addiction, family members trying to understand what recovery asks of a loved one, and those entering coaching work and searching for an experience-based guide to sobriety. Very highly recommneded.
