Two young girls, Nola and Maddie, dream of working in the medical field when they grow up. Their favorite thing to do is practice the skills they already know are essential for being a midwife and nurse practitioner. They know that personal hygiene and keeping their hands clean are the most important things they can do to take care of their future patients. In Nola The Nurse: How To Stop Those Yucky Germs by Dr. Scharmaine Lawson and illustrated by Marvin Alonso, we learn everything we need to know about keeping our hands clean and ensuring there is no risk of infection or illness while in their care. Good handwashing practices and maintaining hospitals and exam areas germ-free are something these characters know well.

Nola The Nurse by Dr. Scharmaine Lawson is the second story in The Germy series. This story has relatable characters that will encourage kids to dream big and practice what they know while using their imaginations. Marvin Alonso provides beautiful illustrations that reflect the important pointers the characters explain throughout the story. The images add depth to the story and exhibit how committed the characters are to imagine what a day in the life of their intended career will be like. I love how Nola and Maddie describe the handwashing process and explain how their future careers will benefit from their understanding of good hygiene. I hope that Lawson and Alonso team up for future installments of The Germy series. I recommend it to anyone with young children.
