Vincent A. Mastro is a husband and father of twins. He is a member of the board of directors for TALC, The Adolescent Leadership Council, a not for profit focused on the development of teens with chronic illnesses of all kinds. As a parent, he was left unsatisfied with the many classic versions of Aesop's Fables because they were stark and not at all interesting to his twins. His motivation for writing this version of the fables is to bring the stories to life through the daily adventures of a little raccoon boy who experiences each fable as it unfolds. Vincent's hope is that the next generation of children will benefit from these extraordinary, timeless messages of insight.

The Tortoise and the Hare by Vincent A. Mastro is a story that nearly everyone knows, but this version is a little bit different. In this story, Aesop isn’t the author; he’s someone who’s about to learn a very important lesson about perseverance. He’s also about to do it with the help of some of his animal friends. The best thing for any young child to learn is to never give up and to keep trying, even if you think you can’t possibly win. The tortoise is able to do so much against impossible odds and if she can do it, then anyone can.
Little Aesop is actually a baby raccoon who is learning a lot about many different things from his Nana. But he’s also a great character for little kids to learn from. He’s a cute little animal which small children seem to relate to well. He’s also learning a lot of necessary skills. His friends are all enchanting, too, and they seem quite realistic. This is a lovely way to teach children some important life lessons. The Tortoise and the Hare is a story of dedication and being able to succeed at anything if you just put your mind to it. The colors are bright and the fun pictures really draw you into the story. The Tortoise and the Hare by Vincent A. Mastro is a wonderful story for children to learn how to read and it’s choice material for parents to read to their children as well.
