Margaret M. Ford’s novel, Lament for the Dead, is a thriller set in Drayford Village, a small and close knit community where people know almost everyone and where serious crimes are simply unheard of. The year is 2006 when the village is shaken by the abduction of Warren Leadbetter in late February. Not long after this, or almost a month later, another resident, Kate Beecham, disappears as she goes home in the middle of watching a movie with her sisters, due to an upset stomach. As more residents are abducted, the local police find no clue and there is nothing to connect the victims to each other. This is until Craig Gardner discovered the book, Drayford Village on the Fringe of Easthampton. Can the mysterious abductor be stopped before he carries out his ultimate devious plan?

Lament for the Dead unravels in Drayford Village, a most unlikely place for the crimes that are about to happen to the most unusual string of victims. Author Margaret Ford develops her story effectively through genuine dialogues and muted but vivid descriptions that should not fail to catch her readers’ interest. She treats her story material in such a way that it comes out crisp and lucid. Her treatment of the shifts in the plot is nothing short of brilliant. As a result, Lament for the Dead flows in such a way that reading the book becomes highly enjoyable and interesting. This is a thriller that will meet any discriminating reader’s expectations and I highly recommend this novel to the reading public.

Another very enjoyable book from the pen of a wonderful story teller.

John Morrow

This mystery cum murder novel completely sucked me in during the prologue. Thoughtfully written and well-crafted, this novel is reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s style but set in 2006. Margaret Ford shows great talent and keeps her words flowing seamlessly throughout the pages.

I just love to read mystery murder novels and when it's written this well I just cannot stop reading. It's very clear that Margaret Ford has a great talent and should continue on and up. I'm going to get some more of Margaret's work as it tends to be exactly what I like.
