The world around us is constantly changing, and the seasons bear witness to it all. And yet, there are those subtle changes, viewpoints that reflect what once was and will always be: the colors of spring, the warmth of a summer day, the frost of autumn that takes away the warmth of the summer months, and the chilly days of winter. In W. Grey Champion’s Poems from the Moleskine, the four seasons of the year are central to who we are. It provides food for thought, as well as thoughts for meditation: “Sit and let your thoughts pass by/ Like clouds across the sky./ Pay them no heed, and you will see/ Mind and sky, clear and free!”
W. Grey Champion’s chapbook, Poems from the Moleskine: Through the Seasons and On, is a compelling collection of seasonal and meditative thoughts. The poems range from classic rhyming verse to free verse. The poet has a powerful command of the English language and uses similes and metaphors effectively. The words are both lyrical, like music, and inspirational. Using as few words as possible, the poet explores the musical lyricism of the images being conveyed. They evoke a subtle nuance of emotions that reflect who we are now, as well as who we were in the past and potentially will be in the future. Life evolves around nature and all it has to offer, and these words speak volumes to that premise. This collection is a caring and insightful look at life.
