We are dependent on technology. Our society can no longer function without computers. What would happen if suddenly the whole nation went dark? That is exactly what happens in “8 Minutes to Digital Winter" by Mark Hitchcock and Alton Gansky. The nation is under a cyber-terrorism attack. It soon becomes apparent that it is not just the United States but the entire globe. The impossible happened: all power was affected blocking everything from cell phones to helicopters. The military is on the alert. Donny Elton is a twenty two year old savant. He rarely speaks and his vocabulary consists of just a few words. He spends his days in his electric wheelchair playing with his keyboard in front of him. His father heard a strange voice coming from Donny’s room and caught a glimpse of a shadow. Someone or something is manipulating Donny. Colonel Jeremy Matisse is attempting to track down the perpetrator while his wife, Doctor Roni Matisse, spends both day and night in surgery. In the aftermath of the catastrophe the citizens must learn how to live without power. The skills their great-grandparents took for granted are the forgotten skills the people need to survive. Survival skill is a lost art.

"8 Minutes to Digital Winter" is an entertaining thriller. The action and thrills are non-stop. Hitchcock and Gansky make an excellent team. The first part of this book deals with the cyber-attack while the rest of the book deals with the aftermath. This book is action-driven but the characters are well done. The genre of this book is Christian Sci Fi. It depicts the author’s imagined apocalypse, with the Antichrist rising to power. I found the story line conceivable. The scenes with Cody and Roni were endearing. The scenes with Donny were creepy for you knew what evil surrounded it. This is one book readers will not want to miss.
