A Bollywood Romance by Anu Koduri is a deeply moving story of love, sacrifice, and self-discovery set against the backdrop of cultural expectations and societal traditions. Paru is a successful gynecologist in Chicago and has spent over twenty years trapped in an unfulfilling marriage after being forced into an arranged union with Samar. Even after he betrays her and leaves her for another woman, the weight of tradition compels her to consider forgiveness. But when Harsha, her true love, reenters her life, Paru faces a heart-wrenching choice: Should she embrace the love she has always longed for or risk losing her children and the life she has built? Koduri masterfully explores themes of identity, empowerment, and the courage it takes to rewrite one’s destiny.

Author Anu Koduri has a keen sense of capturing character in even the smallest actions and dialogue moments, and that shows on every page. This emotionally rich and thought-provoking story captures all the complexities of love and the issues of family and cultural traditions. Koduri’s storytelling style has a lot of tender and evocative images, and there’s something poignant and powerful in the lyrical phrases that linger in your mind long after the last page. Paru is such a likable figure with so much going for her, and it’s a real heartache to see her struggle between duty and desire. This will be such a relatable story for those who have found themselves in similar situations, caught between the established ideas of the past and a possibly heavenly but daunting new future. Overall, I highly recommend A Bollywood Romance as a truly Bollywood-worthy love story filled with heartache, hope, and the triumph of self-discovery.
