A Castle for Dragons: Dragons of Eternity, The First Archive is an epic fantasy written by Julie Wetzel. Kathryn's father had changed after her mother had drowned in the lake. He kept a vigilant eye on her and discouraged any potential suitors for her hand. Now that there was a rogue dragon terrorizing the village, Kathryn was not even allowed outside, unlike her brother. Any attempts to strike back at the marauding dragon had been viciously put down, and most of the men and boys of the village were slaughtered by it. The village elder, Eustace, sent word to the King, pleading for his assistance in dealing with the rogue beast. Prince Kyle Mylan has decided to send his step-brother Patrick to help the besieged villagers. Patrick's not sure he is capable of fulfilling the mission; one that's normally assigned to a more experienced dragon, but he'll have Daniel, a seasoned warrior and friend, by his side.
Julie Wetzel's epic fantasy, A Castle for Dragons: Dragons of Eternity, The First Archive is an original and compelling adventure tale featuring Patrick Mylan, an orphaned dragon who was fostered by his queen. I was intrigued by Wetzel's creative take on dragon lore, and her shifter dragons are marvelous indeed. This is a fast-paced and exciting story that follows events as Patrick and his company occupy the Dunham castle and attempt to solve the mystery of the dragon who has been abducting maidens from the village. Patrick is a grand character whose sudden assumption of a leadership role is both exhilarating and terrifying for the young dragon. Equally perplexing is the young woman, Kathryn, whose stay at the castle is quite a distraction for him. I had a lot of fun reading this well-written and satisfying fantasy. A Castle for Dragons: Dragons of Eternity, The First Archive is highly recommended.
