Hal Koufax, a veteran journalist for the Cincinnati Bugle, was still recovering from a near-death experience at the hands of Frank Miller, a gangster who was after a controversial list in Koufax’s possession. The list, strategically planted in Koufax’s way, not only had ties to the now-dead Councilman Bernie Edmonson but also had sensitive information about a multimillion-dollar project. After Bernie’s death, Koufax had burned the list, believing it would end the violence, but he regretted it. Multiple criminal factions now want the list, and they believe Koufax is hiding it. They kidnap his love interest, Marie Brown, to force him to produce it. Desperate to save Marie, Koufax hatches a plan. He also teams up with his friend, Chief Detective Ferris. How will the looming confrontation with the syndicate play out? Find out in A Far Cry From Yesterday by Ric Christensen.

If you are looking for a crime novel laced with action, mystery, a splash of drama, romance, and suspense, A Far Cry From Yesterday by Ric Christensen is a worthy pick. Using dynamic prose that balances introspection, moments of tension, and bursts of action, the author introduces readers to a fascinating cast. The conversations captured the characters’ emotions, personalities, and social nuances of mid-twentieth-century America. The witty, introspective commentary, sarcasm, cynicism, and pop culture references made reading the story feel like watching a Hollywood crime action comedy. Between following Koufax as he navigated a corporate takeover at the Cincinnati Bugle, watching him pursue his love for Marie, and taking heat from the syndicate over the list, I could not tell what was coming next and kept turning the pages.
