A Glorious Sacrifice by Jan Blonk is the book I wish I had written. This format is so needed in today’s world, the first generation of young adults to grow up without any connection with the Bible. That’s hard for me to believe when my parents took us to church every Sunday, rain or shine or snow. But now, more and more people have no sin concept, and say things like "That’s right for me," or "I guess that’s your choice." An intimate knowledge of the Bible and its teachings is presented by Jan Blonk in A Glorious Sacrifice.
Author Jan Blonk has given us 40 short chapters, each beginning with a Bible passage. He then proceeds to explain the context, what it meant in Jesus’ time, and what it means for us all today. It’s wonderful that Blonk has presented each chapter from a good news viewpoint. Various teachings are given to reveal to us what sin is, how to get saved, and why it matters.
I so enjoyed A Glorious Sacrifice because, although I’m a Christian, it’s hard for me to keep reading, praying, and seeking God on a daily basis when I am busy. Blonk’s format of just a few pages on each topic makes it easy to stay connected with Jesus Christ and His teachings every day. It would be a great gift for any believer you know, or if someone you know and care about is headed in the wrong direction. Perhaps children could be given this book at age twelve as a coming of age gift. I can think of so many good uses for A Glorious Sacrifice, including building my own faith. Thank you to Jan Blonk for writing it. A very nice devotional.
