A Holy Maiden’s Guide to Getting Kidnapped by Katy Nyquist is the story of one holy maiden in particular. Ysabel has a unique gift in that she can heal anyone with nothing more than a touch. It’s a rare and spectacular gift that makes her very special, but this gift comes at a heavy price. Ysabel loses a day of her life with every person she heals, which becomes an even bigger problem because there are so many people who want to capture her and exploit her gift. This fantasy story is a wild ride, featuring a fascinating cast of characters that keep the story rolling. Ysabel is such a compelling character as she dodges corrupt leaders, warriors, and others who think they have a right to her.
I generally don’t read much fantasy fiction, but this story sucked me right in. A Holy Maiden’s Guide to Getting Kidnapped by Katy Nyquist is a fast-paced romp full of intrigue, adventure, and steam! Ysabel is sharp-witted and sarcastic, which I loved, and it serves her well as she goes about her life, healing people and paying a steep price for it. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up this book, but I wasn’t disappointed. I really loved the way Ysabel seemed to transform when Dark Lord Kaine entered her world, refusing to take what so many happily took without regard to the cost she paid for it. They made a fun and sizzling duo that added to an already intriguing story.
