A mother and daughter wake up to a beautiful morning and stand side by side in front of a mirror. And this is where the magic begins! In Taryn Little’s A Little Magic with Mommy and Me, the duo speaks their affirmations of what they believe in themselves. They believe that they are strong, beautiful, smart, and so much more. As they speak to the mirror, they feel emboldened by the power to be the best that they can be, the best that they always are. This powerful little treasure of a story is told in rhyming verse, with a lyrical lilt that will capture the positive vibes of everyone who reads it. The language is simple, so young readers can easily follow along and improve their reading skills.
Taryn Little’s picture book, A Little Magic with Mommy and Me, is all about believing in oneself. The illustrations are bright, bold, and colorful, adding another level of zest to an already inspirational story. I like the way the author weaves this story into a compassionate conversation between mother and daughter, in front of a mirror, first thing in the morning, and creates a daily ritual for the daughter to follow every morning before starting another day. The key messages of this story are self-confidence, emotional connections, and bonding moments with those who mean so much to us (like our mothers), and how important it is to speak these self-empowering words so that we can feel good about ourselves all the time. After all, the greatest magic is what we find inside ourselves.
