A Perilous Question by Barry Finlay is a book that will shock many readers because of its compelling narrative and the facts it relates. In a little village in Tanzania, Marcie Kane, who has been on vacation and has been helping in a project to educate young ones, develops a friendship with two teenage girls, Shoni Batanga and Irene Sembaza. But somewhere in her heart is hidden an unnamed fear that these teenage girls may come to some harm. Things got worse than she could have imagined, for her somewhat protégées have been lured into a dangerous scheme of human trafficking, and of all the places in the world, they are brought too close to home. The race is just beginning for Marcie, and while she has to fight to locate the girls and keep them safe, she also has to keep herself safe in her own hometown. The game becomes even more complicated when she has to team up with an irresistible FBI agent to seek clues about the girls.

Barry Finlay writes with grace and masterfully paints a convincing picture of Africa. His prose will entice and seduce readers with vivid descriptions and dramatic dialogue, but it’s the compelling story he tells that will thrill the hearts of many readers and keep them engrossed from the first to the last page. The author is a master at building tension through well-crafted scenes that leave readers guessing … the suspense is fully realized and it’s one of the outstanding merits of this heart wrenching story. Characters are well-rounded and they evolve with the story. Readers will pity the protagonists who often are clueless about what awaits them, and they will sympathize when they face the crude reality. A Perilous Question is a masterfully written crime novel that will find a home in the hearts of many readers.
