A Terminal Paws: Psychic Sleuths and Talking Dogs by Max Parrott is the eleventh book in the Jaz and Luffy Cozy Mystery series. Jasmine hasn't had the most thrilling time since officially opening her private investigating business. Her recent cases have sent her to find missing spouses (all found and a couple found cheating) and track down family heirlooms. That all changes when she receives a new job from a woman searching for her missing husband which leads Jasmine into a mystery that goes deeper than just a disappearing spouse. As the case starts heating up, she finds a new ally and with help from her old friend Brandon, she sets out to find the missing businessman before it's too late.
This installment has the usual humor – an element that Max Parrott weaves into each of the books – which is evident from the outset as her frustration is manifesting in nervous energy. This mindset also creates a catalyst for Jasmine's next case to deliver more excitement which is where the story shifts into the typical mystery, action, and visions. A subtle element within the plot is Jasmine dealing with condescension due to her age and seeing her take everything in her stride. Parrott has added several layers to Jasmine's character and it has been incredible to see her growth throughout each of these books.
The details incorporated are subtle yet visual thanks to the specific phrases that pull you into the scenes. Jasmine and Luffy's dynamic has always been a highlight of the series as they make quite the duo but, in this book, you also see the dynamic between Luffy and Brandon that has grown to where they share a bond that is a sweet addition to the story. A Terminal Paws is a delightful read that marks a new chapter in Jasmine's life with a new business, an intriguing case, and as always zany antics with her talking dog.
