A Walk in the Dark: The Invisible Man by Niknesha Hairston tells the story of Gabriel “Gabe” Omen, a blind forensic psychologist and FBI consultant with Heightened Sensory Detection (HSD). Before all this, Gabe was just a young boy with a loving family. Unfortunately, a tragic incident led to the death of his parents and left him in a coma for months. With the help of his nurse, Anna Garcia, Gabe woke up blind but found a new home with a new brother, Abe, and a grandfather, Matthew, who helped him discover his extraordinary abilities. Years later, Gabe is now working with the police and the FBI to catch a criminal whose assaults have escalated to murder. Gabe finds himself sympathizing with the criminal, who feels judged for being different. He starts questioning his own identity and analyzing the emotional barriers that are affecting his relationships.

A Walk in the Dark: The Invisible Man is a compelling crime drama that focuses on the effects of trauma on a person's life. It is also a reminder always to treat anyone experiencing a tragedy with kindness. The plot is fast-moving, so the reader gets a clear picture of Gabe's life and what led to his current situation. The novel discusses Heightened Sensory Detection (HSD), which is a unique talent, enabling him to see sound and emotions beyond normal human capabilities. This makes you wonder if there are people who have these kinds of powers and what they can use them for in life. The police investigation kept me hooked—so many twists, plenty of suspects, and enough clues to keep you guessing the whole way through. Niknesha Hairston's narration was interesting, dealing with themes such as trauma and recovery, family and belonging, racial issues, and justice. The ending was unexpected but realistic. The book is an interesting read and a must-have for all who love psychological crime drama, especially those dealing with themes of trauma, healing, and self-discovery.
