Abandoned: A Sacred Mission is a work of fiction in the science fiction, action, and adventure sub-genres and was penned by author Neal Thompson. In this fascinating novel, which combines thriller and mystery elements into its exciting storyline, we discover that there are secrets aboard the International Space Station. Our protagonist Eric Dundston is a keen journalist, and a cryptic message during a tragic event leads him to discover the life of a former astronaut, and the secrets left behind after his demise. What results is a fascinating and accurate exploration of investigative journalism, wrapped up in a space-themed science fiction adventure plot.

Author Neal Thompson has crafted a highly enjoyable story that crosses many genres, and will certainly have appeal for all different types of readers. In terms of plot, I found the mystery elements to be very well-paced, the clues laid out for us to discover alongside Eric, and the conclusions made good sense and will certainly satisfy readers. The character development in the piece was also a big plus, with realistically motivated protagonists and side characters who feel realized and fleshed out in their own right. The book has a unique atmosphere as a space-themed journalistic thriller, which offers plenty of opportunities for sudden twists in the action and unexpected moments. I also felt that the dialogue was well used, both for exposition and in allowing us to get to know Eric and his attitudes all the better. Overall, I would definitely recommend Abandoned: A Sacred Mission to science fiction and mystery fans everywhere.
