Mike Trippiedi's historical novel, Abraham Lincoln's Traveling Medicine Show, recounts the historical events surrounding the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, blending them with fictional elements that add emotional depth to a story deeply rooted in the turbulent events immediately following the end of the nineteenth-century Civil War. From the efforts of two doctors trying to save Lincoln's life, his subsequent/inevitable death, and a thirteen-day funeral as Lincoln's body travels for display across the country, to the escape of the assassin, John W. Booth and his co-conspirators, concluding with the inevitable death of Booth and capture of his cohorts, Trippiedi's fascinating and page-turning novel is an absolute treasure for fans of historical fiction.
Mike Trippiedi's meticulous research and sense of entertainment expertly weave a story of suspense that demands a non-stop reading adventure, guaranteed to tickle the fancy of history fans, as well as the fictional elements that blend perfectly within the framework of historical events. For me, fact-checking the historical events of this story confirmed my long-held suspicion that the history taught to my generation in school was often inaccurate and/or biased to support the political viewpoints of the time. While the majority of characters are historical, the addition of fictional characters blends in perfectly to create side-story elements that are inseparable from and enhance the factual events, amplifying their impact and enhancing one' reading pleasure. Abraham Lincoln's Traveling Medicine Show is an absolute winner, and it's just one of Trippiedi's historical novels that I look forward to reading in the future.
