Abraham's Other Children: The Arabs by Heidi Tawfik is a historical novel divided into three sections, namely 1800 BC-300 AD Origins, 300 AD-450 AD The Age of Ignorance and Beyond, and 450 AD- 632 AD Culmination. It encompasses over twenty-five centuries of history that is largely unknown to many people in the West. In Origins, Abraham relocated Hagar and their son Ismael to what was then an arid place called Mecca and later built the now sacred Muslim edifice Kaaba and the House of God at the Lord's command. Then followed the Age of Ignorance when Arab societies regressed and the era later witnessed the assumption of enlightened leaders in Mecca and El Herah. Finally, the Culmination recounts the beginnings of the Quraysh tribe, the increasing wealth and power of Mecca and the rise of the Hashemite clan and the Omayads, as well as the birth of Mohamed and Islam.

Heidi Tawfik's Abraham's Other Children: The Arabs is a fascinating and informative historical novel that brings us back to circa 1800 BC-632 AD, and introduces us to the prosperous couple Salma and Nahor, Abraham's descendants, and a family history that has impacted the world in more ways than one. Masterfully weaving together fiction and historical facts, author Heidi Tawfik effectively brings to life this little known biblical history that chronicles the development of a society with which we all have an affinity. Definitely an eye-opener, the novel is composed of a number of colorful characters, members of a family, and a society that survived powerful neighboring empires. It takes us to Mecca and Medina, the birthplace of Islam, one of the world's most influential religions at present. As such this book is a must-read for Muslims and Christians alike, all descendants of Abraham.
