The galaxy is vast and inhabited by countless species but communication is still the biggest problem between two people in the terrific new book Across Our Stars: Victor by A. Payne and N.D. Taylor. Dr. Victor del Toro has everything going for him, at least to all appearances. His past, however, contains trauma and tragedy and only the support of his friends and mentors, Commodore Ethan Bishop and Dr. Yuki Oshiro, gets him headed back on the right track as chief cyberneticist aboard the HMS Jemison of the Royal Defense Force. That is until he meets Zoe – a beautiful, tough and brave Royal Marine with special talents and abilities including a cybernetic arm. An instant attraction develops between Victor and Zoe that scares Victor, but Zoe has an unusual depth of understanding and compassion that begins to melt Victor’s reserve. When their feelings for one another compromise their ability to perform their duties, some tough decisions need to be made. Will they realize that love can unite them as well as it seems to force them apart?

For romance lovers, this is a particularly deep and heartwarming story. For fantasy lovers, the descriptions of strange worlds and the species that inhabit them, along with the technology that unites it all, are among the best in literature today. Put together, this is a book that can’t be beat! The depth of the characters’ emotions and psychological issues - real and those enhanced by science – create wonderful interactions in a plot that is complex and engaging. Fantastic story with great depth in the characters and place descriptions. A. Payne and N.D. Taylor are off to a good start in this fantasy/sci-fi series that begins with Across Our Stars: Victor.
