This heartwarming book by Rhovonda L. Brown was an absolute joy to read. Adventures of Karter: I'm a Big Brother Now! will teach children in a playful, simple, and relatable way the joys and responsibilities of becoming a big brother or sister. They will understand the emotions involved, such as excitement, appreciation, and perhaps some stress or jealousy, which is perfectly normal. The vivid and animated illustrations beautifully capture Karter's fun-loving personality. The rhythmic text and exclamations will draw children in and keep their attention. Karter also makes learning new names and letters fun by turning it into a fun guessing game. Adventures of Karter: I'm a Big Brother Now! by Rhovonda L. Brown follows young Karter as he experiences one of the biggest moments in his life: becoming a big brother. The story begins with the arrival of his baby brother, Lucky Jr., and captures Karter's excitement as he imagines all the things they will do together. Guided by conversations with his grandmother and supported by his family, Karter learns what it means to be an older sibling. He wonders about the games they will play, asks questions about his new responsibilities, and delights in every small milestone. Karter discovers that babies need time to grow and that caring for a younger sibling involves patience and understanding. The story also includes a playful guessing game centered on the baby's name, adding an interactive element that invites young readers to participate.

Rhovonda L. Brown writes with warmth and straightforwardness. The pacing moves smoothly through a series of short scenes that mirror the thoughts and feelings of a child adjusting to a family change. Repetition is used effectively, particularly through Karter's recurring statements about being a big brother, helping reinforce both the theme and the rhythm of the story. The narrative is paired with colorful family photographs that give the book a personal quality and help readers connect with the characters. The playful guessing sequence introduces anticipation and encourages participation, making the read interactive. Young children will enjoy Karter's enthusiasm, while parents and caregivers will appreciate the book's focus on kindness, responsibility, and sibling relationships. Fans of family-centered picture books will find much to enjoy in Adventures of Karter.

Adventures of Karter: I'm a Big Brother Now! by Rhovonda L. Brown is about a young boy named Karter who has some awesome news to share with the world: he's a big brother now. The story is told through his eyes as he discovers what it’s like to have a baby brother. At first, he imagines all the fun things he wants to do with him. Before long, he sees there’s more to it than having someone to play with. He learns he needs to be a little patient since babies take time to grow. After talking with Grammy, he realizes that being a big brother is a huge responsibility. Then something happens that changes the way he sees his little brother. What do you think he figured out?

Adventures of Karter by Rhovonda L. Brown is an enjoyable picture book that I’m sure kids will find easy to understand. Karter's enthusiasm, curiosity, and feelings make him lovable and relatable. It would definitely make a great read-aloud. As an educator, I would read it when one of my students has a new sibling or during a unit on families. It also provides opportunities to discuss loved ones, patience, and other related emotions. As a follow-up activity, students can draw or write about the people important to them. The photographs by Kourtney L. Brown bring Karter’s world to life with warmth and personality. My favorites were the ones with smiles, which of course made me do the same. Expectant parents, as well as teachers looking for resources about family changes, will want to pick up this book.
