It would definitely make a great read-aloud. As an educator, I would read it when one of my students has a new sibling or during a unit on families. It also provides opportunities to discuss loved ones, patience, and other related emotions. As a follow-up activity, students can draw or write about the people important to them. The photographs by Kourtney L. Brown bring Karter’s world to life with warmth and personality. My favorites were the ones with smiles, which of course made me do the same.
