First, I have GOT to say that I LOVE Kat Martin! She has got MAD authoring skills! Her writing is fantastic, and she immediately captures with her stories and characters. Her plots are always complex, but entertaining; suspenseful, but passionate.

With that being said, of course, you must know that I LOVED Against the Fire. It's book two in the Raines of Wind Canyon series and wowee! It was so much better than the first (and the first was pretty darned good)! I loved the feeling I got of "going home" among friends and family. The passion between Gabe and Mattie was amazing! Not to mention the incredible suspense! When I opened the book, I was expecting it to be like Against the Wind, Book One...not a lot of suspense, but enough to keep the story spiced. This is SO much better in the suspense field! The fires that start in Gabe's construction company, Kat did a fantastic job of making that the suspenseful, twisty aspect of the story.

Gabe and Mattie's characters were outstanding! There was definitely a lot of passion between those two. But, with a handsome and rugged looking man like ex-marine Gabe, who wouldn't be passionate towards him? I love watching sparks and passion fly between the characters.

So combined with the suspense and passion, this plot line is fantastic as a continuation to the Raines brothers trilogy. I can only begin to imagine what Against the Law will be like. Devlin's story is bound to be as 5-star, great as Gabe's story was! I HIGHLY recommend this book with flying colors!
