In All We Keep Buried by Pamela Ungashick, a friendship is tested when Kiera is caught up in the disappearance of her friend Naomi’s ten-year-old nephew, Scottie. Everyone suspects Reggie Parks. Reggie’s brother Evan disappeared years ago, and he was the prime suspect. After all these years, Reggie wants to know what happened to Evan. Now that Scottie is missing, all eyes are on Reggie again. Reggie and Kiera are looking for the same thing, and circumstances bring them together as they help each other uncover the truth. Kiera’s efforts to find Scottie lead her toward unexpected and increasingly disturbing clues. Kiera finds that her husband, Pierce, is hiding devastating secrets. Concern for a missing boy develops into the feeling that something is very wrong. Will Kiera be able to handle the truth and let justice prevail?
All We Keep Buried by Pamela Ungashick had me hooked from the start until the finish. There were several storylines woven successfully together. The chapters alternated between Kiera, the suspect, and Reggie. This way, I could understand better what was going on. I tried to predict who the suspect was, but that was impossible. I was proven wrong every time, and only learned his identity at the end of the book. The characters were realistic, ordinary people who had to work through their own trauma. The writing was engaging, and the tension increased as more clues surfaced. The pacing gave me enough time to process everything that was happening before the next clue. The book was excellently written and has all the components to be a winner. I could not put the book down once I started reading, and I caught myself reliving the events a few times.
