The Dryad's Crown by David Hopkins is an enthralling fantasy novel. Born from a tree, a wood nymph passes through the hands of a woman, a druid, a farmer, and a Taraki priest until she ends up on an infamous guildmaster's estate, and her life takes a turn. As her guardian, the cruel guildmaster trains Silbrey to become a warrior and a killer. Now a young adult, Silbrey falls in love and wishes to start a new life, even if it means she can never return to the corrupt city of Penderyn ever again, and that she and her family will never be safe as long as the cruel guildmaster is alive. When tragedy strikes, Silbrey, now a mother, sets out on a new path to discover who she is, more about her mysterious powers, and her connection with the natural world. Little does she know that she may be the one who can help stop the titans deep under the earth from waking and prevent the world from breaking apart.
The Dryad's Crown by David Hopkins is the unforgettable first book in a gritty saga of self-discovery, love, loss, sacrifice, mercy, forgiveness, purpose, and destiny. With superb writing, incredibly well-done illustrations, and a highly complex, imaginative storyline filled with magic, action, mystery, supernatural forces, and mythical creatures, this intricate and unique coming-of-age story blends fantastical elements with human struggle and real-world issues. A rarity in itself, any voracious reader will enjoy this epic fantasy due to its depictions, especially of polyamory, open marriage, sexual expression, polytheism, paganism, religious authority figures, and more. This fairy tale transforms into a multi-generational epic fantasy. I highly recommend it.
