Alone, Together, Nevermore: A Novel by Thomas Stacey is a wonderful story that takes readers on a compelling adventure. It is set in the 1970s and follows Tommy Rissen, a former rock-star who honed his skills for poetry and became the songwriter for the band called Roc. His fame grew steadily in the band, but things changed for him when he started using drugs. His relationship with Lenore also faced challenges. A US Marshall, Aureliano Martinez, bent on catching the famous Mexican drug lord, Joaquin Gutierrez, came up with a plan to use Tommy. Tommy lured the drug lord into the US and set him up. Imprisoned, Joaquin Gutierrez vows to have his revenge on Tommy, and he starts by killing Lenore who had just given birth. But it is only the beginning. Can Tommy escape the wrath of El Piranha when he escapes from prison and comes after him?
Alone, Together, Nevermore is an emotionally charged story with rock-solid characters. The setting between Mexico and the US is beautifully written and the narrative is filled with fascinating cultural elements. Tommy is a tragic hero that readers will love. He is genuinely flawed, and while he is a gifted songwriter, he has a huge addiction, and it will lead to his downfall. The antagonist is a drug lord with a unique torture signature. Thomas Stacey knows how to create a plot that keeps readers turning the pages. The conflict is strong and explored at different levels. Alone, Together, Nevermore is a fascinating story with unforgettable characters, gorgeous prose, and a strong narrative voice.
