Always by Karen Leppert is a contemporary romance with a powerful twist. Seth has just started dating Sarah…again. They meet opposition from loved ones who think they are not meant for each other. They are keeping things discreet, but the challenges they face are indicative that there might not be a future for them as a couple. Things get complicated when Seth learns the truth about Sarah’s pregnancy. But what might destroy the fragile thread of love they have worked hard to maintain is a tragedy looming ahead. Can their love for each other muster enough fight in them to endure these trying times?
Here is a novel that brilliantly explores the tenacity of love and readers will find themselves rooting for the key characters. It is easy to hear the echoes of one’s own heart in the characters. The scene when Seth comes back home from New York where he’s been shooting his movie is emotional and I got hooked as I watched both Sarah and Seth studying each other, longing for each other, hesitant and uncertain. Karen Leppert creates characters who are real and sophisticated. The conflict is strong and readers want to see what becomes of Seth and Sarah as they pursue a relationship against the wishes of those closest to them. Always is told in a warm and sympathetic tone and the narrative is gripping from the perspective of each character. The writing is excellent and the conversations sound just as natural as in real life. A very delightful read, indeed.
