Anasazi Medium by GG Collins is the fourth book in the Rachel Blackstone Paranormal Mystery series. Nine signs signal the end of the Fourth World of the Hopi, which sets Rachel on a new mission when the spirit world comes asking for her help. To save everyone she knows and loves, Rachel will face her toughest risk yet and will need a friend's help to take a journey into the Land of the Dead. Natural disasters are brewing including earthquakes, floods, and a super-volcano that up the stakes as she works to determine the source behind it all. The latest journey will push her to places that only her closest allies can help her navigate.
An ominous backdrop is evident from the beginning with birds falling from the sky and only one surviving to fly away on what is described as a lonely journey. GG Collins weaves in different disasters such as earthquakes, a flood, and the threat of an erupting volcano lurking in the background. The presence of these disasters drives the plot forward and heralds the danger of the impending doom of the Fourth World. The adventure is rooted within the world of Hopi legends and lore from the signs to the characters such as Skeleton Man (Lord of the Dead). Collins creates a world that breathes these legends into existence and draws you into an unforgettable adventure.
Animals are woven into the story and are important presences in Rachel's life with Kiyiya, the spirit wolf that arrives whenever she needs a heads up, and Chile Pod, her adorable cat that is her constant companion. The story has fun references that blend in with the tone of the story such as The Walking Dead and Supernatural, which are both known for apocalyptic themes. These add delightful details to the mystery and add to the humor and the modern setting. Anasazi Medium is another shining example of the series with Hopi lore, an apocalyptic background, mystery, and adventure.
