In Angelica (The Detective Mike Eiser Series Book 2) by Clabe Polk, Angelica Vicetti leaves her life as a Las Vegas mob widow and recreates herself as Angelica Cassetta, a small town Georgia real estate agent. Life is grand until the mob feels threatened and puts out a hit on her. Mike Eiser, local Sheriff's detective and good friend, does everything he can to protect her. Lord only knows whether she will survive.
Angelica (The Detective Mike Eiser Series Book 2) by Clabe Polk starts with death on page one. From there, the story only gets better. Polk does an amazing job of balancing the story's pacing with revealing a beautifully cascaded array of details that are both engaging and fascinating. His characters are dynamic, and the action and intrigue are spot on for what I would expect in a thriller. The prose in Angelica is just as lovely as the woman. The book flows so smoothly from page one to the end that I had to set a timer to keep from reading all night.
I recommend Angelica to anyone who likes small town intrigue mixed with a healthy dose of hardened mobster. I especially appreciate that I have never read the first book in The Detective Mike Eiser Series and do not feel that I have missed out on anything pertinent to the plot. I can't wait to see what other dilemmas Mike Eiser and the residents of Poplar Bluffs, Georgia get up to in the next book in the series.
