Animals Are Great by Latifa Kimberly Reeves, Mark Larson, and Lisa Hart is a cheerful, rhythmic celebration of the animal kingdom, designed to be sung aloud and enjoyed by young children. The book invites readers to journey through forests and skies, where they encounter various animals in playful repetition and song-like verse. Its lyrical format and call-and-response style are perfect for early readers and listeners who thrive on predictability and sound patterns. Each animal introduced—wolves, birds, dogs, roosters, monkeys, and snakes—reinforces the joy of imagination and role-play. The book also gently weaves in a message of appreciation for diversity in the animal world, noting that some animals are furry, some are big, and others are small.

The illustrations by Ana Enache complement the energetic tone of the text, helping to identify each creature as it appears visually. The colorful and friendly images align well with the book’s sing-along quality and playful spirit. Children can follow the words while pointing to each animal, creating a multisensory read. Latifa Kimberly Reeves, Mark Larson, and Lisa Hart encourage imagination while teaching youngsters to appreciate and respect animal life. There are many children’s books about animals; however, the authors bring a uniqueness that sets Animals Are Great apart. It is a spirited and musical picture book that supports early language development, imaginative play, and a budding love of animals. Whether used in a classroom circle or at bedtime, it offers a fun and memorable read for preschool and kindergarten-aged children.
