Atomic Pilgrim by James Patrick Thomas is an inspiring memoir that depicts the fearless efforts taken in the pursuit of peace and a world free of nuclear weapons. After watching a documentary about Mother Teresa's missionary work in India, Thomas quits his unsatisfying job and joins the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. He becomes dedicated to serving Seattle’s inner-city residents affected by poverty. Thomas's experiences in the Corps ultimately guided him to undertake a 6700-mile Bethlehem Peace Pilgrimage across multiple countries, where he advocated for peace and nuclear disarmament. The author's journey further propelled him to pursue the facts regarding nuclear weapons testing in a Washington plutonium factory and its toxic effects on the human body. Thomas adamantly sought to have the U.S. government held accountable for nuclear weapon-related health issues caused to its citizens. This memoir documents his thought-provoking journey in full.
