Jarrod L. Edge’s It Came To Pass follows Elizabeth, a teenager balancing the complex legacy of her mother’s memory with life alongside her martial arts prodigy siblings. They are all part of a faith-based group called the Dragons; Elizabeth has unique spiritual gifts that allow her to sense the deepest vulnerabilities of total strangers. Following a long, intense night of crime prevention in Charleston, she takes a bus ride that quickly turns into a tense spiritual battleground. As a group of passengers gets on the bus, each with their own hidden heartaches, anger, and private battles, our young protagonist must step into her calling as a divine conduit. Will Elizabeth find the strength she needs to pierce the defensive walls of these hurting passengers before their unresolved pain turns into a tragedy?
Jarrod L. Edge’s It Came To Pass is an evocative young adult Christian novel that skillfully focuses on interpersonal relationships. The story gives us a heartfelt look at the ways human lives cross paths in the most unexpected places. Edge weaves together a beautiful tapestry of different perspectives, and he makes the cramped setting of a city transit bus feel very vibrant and alive. It was captivating to watch Elizabeth use her custom-tailored parables to speak directly to the secret struggles of her fellow riders, building a great atmosphere of emotional anticipation. The thematic depth of unconditional love and healing broken family relationships gives the story a beautiful core that I’m sure will speak to the hearts of younger readers looking for meaning in their own lives. Altogether, the story shows that gentle words can alter the trajectory of a person’s life when compassion replaces harsh judgment. This remarkable tale is definitive proof that the subtlest victories of faith can still leave a permanent mark on our soul. Very highly recommended.
