“Awesome Bible Verses Every Kid Should Know…and What They Mean” by Rebecca Lutzer is an excellent collection of Bible verses that are explained in terms that children can easily understand. This book is divided into different chapters, each chapter focusing on a specific topic. For example, there is a chapter devoted to verses about friendship, a chapter about honesty, one about obedience and another about heaven, just to name a few. Each chapter begins with a couple of verses listed. Then a brief explanation or description of the topic is shared followed by a few questions for the child to read and think about. 'What God Wants Me to Know' is the next section in each chapter and this is a numbered list of points that are important for the child to know. 'Look At It This Way' is a brief lesson that is shared in each chapter that further explains and helps the child to relate to the verses and truths. Each chapter ends with a prayer.
I find this book to be an excellent collection of verses as it contains a wide variety of topics and important truths for children to learn. Instead of giving a child a list of verses to learn, this book goes the extra step and helps to study and really think about each verse. Not only does this teach the meaning and point behind the verses, but it also helps the child to learn the verse and remember the truth in everyday life and make decisions. Overall, this book will help any child to know God better and learn to look to Him and make Him a part of his or her life. Also, the cover catches the eye and will entice readers to pick it up and look inside.
