Ayesha Dean: The Seville Secret by Melati Lum is the second book in the Ayesha Dean series. Ayesha sets out on another dazzling adventure with an all-new mystery to solve. This time, Ayesha and her closest friends are heading to Spain. Their trip kicks off when they make a new friend on the plane, who tells them of his grandfather’s disappearance. Ayesha is immediately drawn into the mystery and is determined to help her new friend, which leads her to the discovery of a 17th-century diary that sends her into a grave situation.

Melati Lum delivers a delightful, modern Nancy Drew with a spunky sleuth that has an eye for mystery, a bright intelligence, and a love of fashion. The Seville Secret brings mysteries to a whole new generation that will instantly see themselves in Ayesha and her friends. The characters are realistic with distinct personalities and fun attitudes that make the mystery humorous and genuine. The plot weaves in Spanish history, which is primarily drawn from the diary. Ayesha and her friends dive into the past and make discoveries about the present. This will open the minds of young readers as they learn about Spanish history.

The mystery revolves around Kareem’s grandfather’s disappearance which leads Ayesha into danger and secrets. This draws her into a complex mystery that ties directly to a missing necklace and relates to history in a way that opens Ayesha’s eyes to the past and present dangers. The mystery will no doubt keep you on your toes as Ayesha finds danger at every turn with threats that grow with every clue she uncovers. She doesn’t let any of the dangers stop her from finding answers, which makes her reminiscent of classic sleuths Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden that never let anything stop them. She’s spunky and intelligent, which provides an amazing voice that kids will immediately connect with and enjoy. Ayesha Dean: The Seville Secret puts a modern voice to a new kind of sleuth with an engaging mystery, diverse characters, action-packed moments, and a connection to history.
