Azalea and I: On the Road to Spain by RM Howe sees two adventurous heroines, Barbara and Azalea, embark on a thrilling mystery in sunny Spain. Invited by Charles Madden, who runs a coach tour company, Barbara investigates the disappearance of an undermanager at a new resort. Accompanied by Azalea, Barbara uncovers a disturbing child-smuggling ring operating within the resort’s stunning mineral mines. As they delve deeper into the crime, their journey is enriched by the assistance of local residents Hans and Alvaro. This engaging mystery combines intrigue with humor, set against the glamorous backdrop of Spain.

Author RM Howe offers readers an engaging narrative and a brilliant dive into friendship, mystery, and adventure that keeps readers entertained while tackling some quite serious themes. The vivid depiction of Spain’s beautiful expansive landscapes and the resort’s exotic allure adds a rich visual element to the story, enhancing every scene with atmosphere and easy-to-imagine locations. On top of this, the dynamic between Barbara and Azalea is portrayed with a delightful camaraderie, showcasing Howe’s skill in crafting relatable and charming characters who leap off the pages with larger-than-life dialogue. I also really enjoyed how the language between them and the people they meet along the way furthers the plot and develops every clue and mysterious element without the need for long prose sections that would slow the pace down. Howe’s intricate plotting and ability to weave elements of social issues within a thrilling narrative demonstrate a sophisticated approach to mystery storytelling that is a cut above most in the genre. Overall, I would highly recommend Azalea and I for crime and mystery fans everywhere to enjoy.
