Charlie and the Funky Monkeys Challenge by Michelle V Schreiner is a story about the value of believing in yourself. Charlie visits a museum with her twin brother, Oxford, and their parents. While separately exploring different areas, Charlie finds Oxford playing a video game with Aaron, a schoolmate. The challenge is to identify whether two monkeys are the same or different. When Charlie expresses her desire to participate, Aaron tells her that this is not a game for girls. Although Oxford notes the unfairness of the comment, he encourages her to continue enjoying the visit. Later, at home, Charlie tells her mother about what happened during the visit. Her mom motivates her not to let such comments limit her. Fortunately, soon after, during a school trip to the same museum, Charlie has the perfect opportunity to show what she can accomplish.

Charlie is a charming character. Initially, she feels insecure but gradually gains determination and finds ways to improve herself. I loved the moment when she practiced drawing monkeys at home on sheets of paper, reflecting her dedication and creativity. Her brother supports her, and this gesture highlights the beautiful bond they share. Michelle V Schreiner presents a fun and meaningful story that invites girls and boys to dream big regardless of gender. The narration is clear, entertaining, and accessible to young readers. In addition, the illustrations are colorful, with expressive characters. Charlie and the Funky Monkeys Challenge is ideal for discussing fairness, personal courage, and family support in important situations.
