Gender identity is, perhaps, one of the most misunderstood concepts or constructs, alongside or after sexual orientation. Steeped in societal norms, most of the world seems always ready to judge, shun, and even reject what does not align with its perceptions and culture, rather than taking the time to understand. Because of this, it can be very challenging for not only a person exploring, transitioning, or affirming their gender identity, but also for their family and friends. In Journey to Acceptance: Two Journeys, One Tapestry of Gender Recognition, Tracy Turner recounts her journey and experiences with her child as they transitioned from a male to a female identity. A journey that leads her to an ultimate path of self-discovery and a happy, fulfilling life. Discover more about the details of this remarkable journey.
Tracy Turner’s Journey to Acceptance is a must-read for every parent, caregiver, and, most importantly, anyone grappling with their gender identity. In a raw, authentic tone, Turner pours out her heart, describing her gruelling experience with her child as they underwent gender transitioning, sparing no detail from their childhood, well into their adulthood after completing the process. The heartfelt anecdotes and Turner’s open-minded approach to the underlying discourse of gender identity and parenting were eye-opening and enlightening. The narrative voice hints at Turner's skill as a writer. The memoir not only captures the struggles transgender individuals and the people around them go through but also offers invaluable insight and material to help deal with them. It is a story of incredible resilience and hope. I appreciate Turner for sharing such a moving, inspiring, and informative story.
