Tina Neely has taken a different approach to bacon in her sweet children’s book Bacon Love Everyone! A farmer takes a piglet named Bacon Bits—Bacon for short—and his siblings to the flea market to be adopted. All Bacon’s siblings are chosen, but poor Bacon is left alone. After a while, an older couple comes by and falls so much in love with Bacon that they adopt him. Bacon is overjoyed and makes many friends at his new forever home. He makes a special sound as he walks around, meeting and greeting all his new friends. The main theme of this book is that no matter how it is said, you are loved. Sometimes, we don’t realize someone loves us because they show love differently than we do; however, it is important to understand we are still loved and lovable.
Bacon Loves Everyone! by Tina Neely is a wonderful children’s picture book that teaches many lessons to young readers. Reading this book will reinforce a child’s understanding that different animals make different sounds, just like humans speak other languages. They will laugh at the creative names each animal on the farm is given. What would you name a blind toy poodle? The one in the book is called Goliath. Throughout this book, there are hidden hearts. Can your child find over 400 of them? Love is said and expressed in many ways, and children need to understand that no matter how it is shown, they are loved. The knowledge that one is loved and accepted goes a long way in strengthening a child’s confidence. Love from animals can teach us many lessons about enduring and true love. You can also discuss adoption with your young reader.
