Balloons Versus Costumes is a children's picture book by Mr. Sun. It follows two kids who are passionate about their businesses. Blane sells balloons, while Carmen specializes in scary costumes. They both operate in the same park and often steal each other's customers, leading to frequent arguments. They feel like the park is not big enough for both of them, and neither of them is willing to leave. One day, Blane decides that enough is enough, and he proposes a deal to Carmen. The loser of the bet will have to leave the park forever. They plan to meet at a local haunted mansion to face the ghost that roams its halls. However, things do not go as planned.
Balloons Versus Costumes is a fun story with expressive characters and humorous moments that young readers will enjoy. It not only entertains but also teaches valuable lessons in collaboration and problem-solving. The premise of rivalry turning into teamwork highlights the importance of working together toward a common goal. Blane and Carmen's experience shows that putting differences aside can help us come up with better and more innovative ideas. Dr. Sun uses comic-style illustrations to convey the story through visuals, resulting in a conversational and easy-to-follow read. The bright colors add vibrancy, while the action sounds in the narration make it engaging. I had fun reading this book, and highly recommend it to parents who want to teach their children about living in harmony with others. Overall, this is great work.
