Recently abandoned and evicted, a woman's journey from rejection to self-acceptance begins when she encounters generosity and kindness in her new home and the loving encouragement from the Otherside in the heart-warming novel, Barefoot Alice by Jan Porter. Alice and Ed were married for more than three decades when Ed leaves her someone else. A few months later, Ed calls and tells her he sold their house and she has to be out in two days. In a daze, Alice packs her belongings into her old truck and starts driving. Without any clue as to where she is going, Alice gets caught in a blizzard. Turning off the highway and stopping at an old diner, her life veers in an unexpected direction. Affected by the kindness of the diner's occupants, Alice decides to settle in the area and buys the old schoolhouse. In a twist of fate, her new home is occupied by the spirits of those who once went to school there. Is it possible to live in a haunted house? How will it affect Alice?
Barefoot Alice by Jan Porter is an uplifting and inspiring women's novel. Poignant and stirring, the story depicts how spirits and guides are always there, giving unconditional love and support. Alice's interaction with the schoolhouse ghosts and how she integrated them into her life was fascinating. With an engaging plot and a realistic protagonist with flaws, the story was captivating from the first page until the last. Because she was so genuine, it was easy to relate to Alice and her conflicts. As she faced each new trial, I shed a few tears with her and rejoiced in each of her triumphs. It was heartwarming to observe the spirits and her new friends encouraging and helping Alice overcome her heartbreaking past. Beautifully written, it is an enchanting story that I will read again and again. This delightful and inspirational novel promises to enthrall everyone who loves an empowering tale of self-discovery and appreciation.
