Jada Collins grew up in a neglectful, abusive household. Her father abused her mother, calling her ugly. Jada and her sister watched, and Jada protected her sister. Her father then suddenly left, taking on the role as nothing but a sperm donor. Once again, Jada protected her sister.

Jada and her sister were left with family members while Jada’s mother learned to support herself. Jada found respite in cheerleading. She dreamed of being a model like she saw in the magazines. However, her father had instilled in her that she was ugly, like her mother. In time, Jada realized that she was as beautiful as her mother actually was.
Jada did become a model plus much more. On her life’s journey, she became a Christian mentor to many who struggled with their walk with Christ. Jada also struggled, backslid, and repented. Through her struggles, she became stronger in her relationship with Christ.

After her relationship with Christ became strong, she met her future husband. He had had entered the ministry in many different roles. He respected her walk with the Lord. Their relationship was based upon their love of the Lord. Jada learned to forgive those who do not deserve forgiveness. However, she did so because of God’s grace; afterall, we are not always lovable, yet God always loves us.

I realize that this is a self-help book, but it is also simply a great read. I really appreciate Jada’s honesty about faltering to keep her virginity, her regret, and her repentance. I also respect her honesty about the fact that pre-marital sex adds another factor to the relationship equation, and it blurs the truth about a relationship.

Jada reminded me that words do leave marks. This is such an important reminder for us all, especially parents. What are we teaching our children with our words? So many would have given up, but Jada kept going. Jada did have a Christian family. That foundation kept her grounded. Though she strayed, she came back to her roots, made peace with herself and her family, and led others to God. This is quite a story. Read and be blessed.
