Betty Parker’s life seemed to be rushing away from her. She was stuck in a tired and lifeless marriage with Ralph Parker, whose retirement seemed focused upon his new boat and sailing companion, leaving her home alone with her beloved and aging yellow Labrador retriever, Maggie, as her best friend and companion. Why me? she wondered. Why couldn’t she find true love? She looked out at the stars with eyes blurred by her tears and wished on them that someone somewhere out there would help her. Little did she know that her entreaty had been noted. Zvie, otherwise known as Angel Second Chance, Project Angel, had been assigned her case. But she would have to give up more than she ever dreamed of getting her second chance, and it wasn’t guaranteed that she would succeed in trusting or finding love again.

Becoming Kate: A Novel of Second Chances is a paranormal fantasy novel written by J.C. Konitz. This is a compelling romantic story about two second chancers who must learn to trust again. The premise of the story is original and fresh, and the plot involves enough false starts and complications to keep the reader involved in the story. Konitz’s characters are finely detailed and authentic, and the New York City setting is marvelous. Becoming Kate had me glued to the page until the last one was turned. It’s highly recommended.
