Author Francis Knight's second book in the Rojan Dizon series seems to start where the first book, Fade To Black, left off. Rojan Dizon is a pain mage and on the trail of what has become complete chaos in his part of the world. Through tribulation, utter pain, and loyalty to him and by him, Rojan must face even more of his nemesis. A young pain mage murders the adopted daughter of a priest and other factors he just doesn't see coming until too late push him to the brink, literally.
Having not read the beginning and entering into an already well-established story line, I didn't have any trouble sinking into this book at all. In fact, I felt that there would surely be a sequel but had no idea that there was a book prior to it until I did some research for this review. To me, that shows that Francis Knight is a solid writer with the foresight to keep the ball rolling lest the reader lose interest. This is one of those books that you are going to want to either listen to on a long road trip or chunk out a good part of a weekend so you don't have to put it down. In fact, get yourself the entire series! You will pleased with the experience (plus you won't have to wait for the next book to be delivered or go to the store to get it)! Before the Fall (A Rojan Dizon Novel) is a must-have for any reader who enjoys fantasy!
