In Benji and Briana Become Booger Doctors by Cindy Lee Neighbors, we are introduced to a little girl who has a serious case of booger sneezes. Her brother Benji suggests that they go to Surgeryland. Briana is confused but Benji tells her Surgeryland is the only place where they can be seen by the Booger doctors. They are greeted by small fairies who know Benji by name. To make sure Briana stays calm, Benji lets the doctor check him out first. The Booger doctor and his fairies do their magic work and soon Briana finds herself feeling better. She’s given a magical medicine and a sense of relief. After Benji has his own booger procedure done, the siblings return to their world where they tell their mother of their adventure to Surgeryland and how they are now booger-free.

Benji and Briana Become Booger Doctors is a great children’s book that many kids can relate to. With an adorable brother and sister duo, we can taken on an adventure to find a cure for what seems like the common cold. It's a fun journey that a child would love to go on using their imagination, and kids can relate to it. Getting the sniffles or the common cold is usual for children but might not be as fun to deal with. However, this book has a different and quirky take on it. The illustrations by Tim Crecelius are so beautiful and fit perfectly with the storyline. Overall, Cindy Lee Neighbors has done a wonderful job and I can’t wait to read what she comes out with next.

A Fun and Educational Adventure to Surgeryland!

As an ARC reader, I was lucky enough to get an early look at "Benji and Briana Become Booger Doctors," and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! I wasn't sure what to expect from a book about boogers, but this one turned out to be a fun and educational read for kids.

The story follows Benji and Briana, two siblings who go on a magical journey to Surgeryland, a fantastical hospital where they learn about snot, sneezes, and the human body. The concept is super creative and definitely captures kids' attention. Plus, it's a great way to teach them about health and hygiene without being boring or preachy.

I loved the characters of Benji and Briana. They're relatable and funny, and their sibling dynamic is spot-on. The supporting characters, like the Booger Doctor and the fairies, are also quirky and memorable.

The illustrations are awesome! They're colorful, detailed, and full of imagination. They really bring the story to life and make Surgeryland feel like a real place.

What makes this book even more special is that it's written by a physician, Dr. Cindy Lee Neighbors. Snot comes in multiple colors and consistency. It can continuously drip out our noses like a leaking faucet. It can fill up numerous tissues with no end in sight. It can indicate an illness or produced when you consume hot or spicy food or cry. Snot can form due to seasonal allergies. It can be thick like molasses or clear and sticky. Whatever reason excessive boogers are formed, most of us want it gone. We definitely do not want a snot explosion like the one Briana suffered from. The poor little girl sneezed, and snot coated her from head to toe. The images were grossly funny, and kids will love them. Parents, too!

Thankfully, Briana’s brother is close by with a grand idea to cure her booger woes— let’s visit the Boogie Doctors! Benji and Briana embark on a magical journey to the fantastical hospital in Surgeryland (or Surgiland, as the kids like to say). On the yellow road to the castle that doubles as a hospital, the duo meet a doctor overseeing all boogie surgeries in this fantabulous world. They shared Briana’s nasal woes and discovered a case of the sneezes could be related to the seasons. To be specific, “The season of the birds, the bees, and the big allergies …” according to the three colorful, winged rhyming fairies.

The Boogie Doctor and his adorable medical helpers, the fairies, looked inside Briana’s nose to spot the snot problem. Even Benji sits and allows Doctor Boogie to insert a surgical camera up his nostril. I can practically hear kids say, “Eww or yuck,” when they see the forest of boogers on the monitor. It was another hilariously gross image that I enjoyed.

Not every ENT (ear, nose, and throat) visit will result in surgery. Some snot issues can be cured with medicine as was the case with Briana. But, if is needed, kids will be more relaxed thanks to Benji and Briana’s bravery in Surgeryland. I recommend sharing Benji and Briana Become Booger Doctors with children two years and up. Parents and kids will laugh at the snotty mess. Readers will notice and love how each mucus word is enlarged, bolded, and shaded bright green and how other words pop off the pages using different font styles, colors, and sizes.

Join the siblings on their wondrous, magical adventure in Surgeryland as they visit a doc to stop Briana’s snot!
