In this fun picture book starring man’s best friends, Bicycling Dog Tails, we meet three pooches who like bicycling with their handler who works for Pawsitively Pet Care. Charcoal is an adorable black dog with curly hair that loves going on day and nighttime walks with his owner. He rides alongside the bike to get his exercise. When they ride at night he wears a neon glow in the dark leash and collar that everyone thinks is awesome. Watson is a yellow lab whose owner got injured and wasn’t able to take him on walks that he loves. That’s when the nice handler comes in from Pawsitively Pet Care to take Watson for walks and bicycle rides into the forest. Then there is Ruca who is a special dog all her own. Ruca is a trainer by the same company that Watson is walked with, but instead of going on walks, Ruca is trained to prevent children from going near strangers. She is taught of stranger dangers that will help their child owner from approaching people who could be bad.

I thought Bicycling Dog Tails was a fun and informative book about three adorable dogs. It’s definitely a different approach and way to teach your children about pet care. I also found it fascinating what Ruca is being trained to do. I know that you can teach a pet a lot of things but I didn’t know it could be that specific; having a dog learn how to warn its owner of strangers and potentially harmful people. Overall, I feel that Deborah Gibson did a fantastic job of creating a new type of real-life storytelling that is sure to grab the attention of the child or parent reading it.
