In Bikini Cowgirls of the Urban Legion by Dave Agans, three years have passed since Meg Brecker was witness to her boyfriend Tommy Owen's disappearance and ultimate death as he was scooped out of the ocean by a fire-fighting tanker plane. As she watched from a safe distance, she overheard her dive boat pilot celebrate the death of herself and Tommy. Meg knew that to discover Tommy's fate, she has to remain in hiding. She joins the other survivors and becomes a member of the Urban Legion, fighting and exposing the Corporation. With the support and love of Howie, a fellow Urban Legionnaire, she is determined to bring Tommy's killers to justice. Meg somehow meets Tommy's brother Clint who is the host of a reality show, Next Bikini Cowgirl, and discovers that the men behind the death of Tommy are also involved in the reality show. She joins the cast and begins her investigations from the inside with the help of the other Legionnaires. Meg is TV gold with her notoriety as a missing person for three years and, as much as Tommy's killers want her dead, she is far more lucrative to them alive, for now. As Meg battles against the other contestants on the show, her life becomes increasingly in danger as she leaks information out to the Urban Legionnaires. Can she expose the truth and get the justice Tommy deserves or will the killers really televise Meg's death live on air to increase viewing figures?
I absolutely loved Bikini Cowgirls of the Urban Legion from the outset. Dave Agans captures the quirky personality traits of the characters perfectly. Their dialogue and behavior were so relatable and I am sure many readers can identify with many of the characters. Muddy Bootes - what a great name for an antagonist, a vile, self-serving villain who would stop at nothing to achieve his aim. I also howled with laughter at the charades carried out in front and behind the camera of a reality television show. I thought Meg was the perfect mixture of strength, fierceness, and feminity. She was also supported by a cast of great, strong female characters and of course Howie, whom I adored. The conspiracies brought a hysterical but very thought-provoking layer to the plot. There is not only humor in this novel, but excitement, intrigue, and tension. The twists in the plot were amazing and I cannot wait for book three of the Urban Legion trilogy.
