In "Blast to the Past: Lincoln’s Legacy", third graders Abigail, Zack, Jacob, and Bo travel back in time to February 22nd, 1862, to convince President Abraham Lincoln not to quit! Mr. Caruthers, the cool third grade teacher, has a time machine! When he discovers that Abraham Lincoln is so discouraged that he is considering giving up his presidency, he travels back in time to talk the famous president into not giving up. When his attempt fails, he decides to send four of his students, each with different talents and strengths, to take on the task of keeping President Lincoln from quitting, and making sure the president issues the Emancipation Proclamation! How are four kids going to talk a president into anything, and that too with only two hours to do it?

"Blast to the Past: Lincoln’s Legacy" is a fast-paced, fact-filled, historical fiction read for kids aged 7-10. It is a perfect combination of accurate history, adventure, and imagination as four kids travel back in time to keep history from falling apart at the seams. Deutsch and Cohon keep their readers on edge as they maneuver their heroes through the chaotic streets of 1800’s Washington D.C. and right through the front door of the White House! You see, Abraham Lincoln created the Secret Service only in 1865, so there was little protection for the president in 1862. These snippets of history are scattered throughout the story. What a fun way to learn historical facts! "Lincoln’s Legacy" is the first in a three book series. The next in line are "Disney’s Dream" and "Bell’s Breakthrough".
