Nurturing a love of writing at a young age enables children to become competent writers as they grow up. Debra A. Boyle is a veteran language arts teacher. With Bored At Home, Boyle presents a language arts workbook designed to help young students learn how to write. Each chapter in this book comes with a story along with comprehension questions with answers to select. Children will be able to compare and contrast themselves with the main characters in these stories. They will find examples of essays with good writing and bad writing, helpful prompts for writing first drafts of essays, and a proofreading checklist for those rough drafts. The book also offers tips for creative letter writing, describing characters, and writing dialogue and short stories.

Bored At Home is a delightful interactive guide for creative writing. I think both parents and kids will benefit from this workbook. Debra A. Boyle draws on her vast experience as a language arts teacher to offer an easy-to-follow guide that is bound to help young students enhance their writing and arts skills and spark their creative abilities. The book is very accessible and should be clearly understandable even to someone with novice reading and writing skills. Boyle takes a step-by-step approach to offering the tools of creative writing in this book, with the first few chapters focusing on essays and eventually transitioning to short stories and other creative writing assignments toward the end. I learnt a couple of things about crafting characters and writing dialogue from this book myself. Overall, it's a fun and educational workbook that young students will definitely find helpful.
