Get ready for a few laughs and a dose of sweet romance with Nicole Schubert's Boyfriend in a Body Cast. Beatrix Plumb, a sixteen-year-old romantic and idealist, has a penchant for Appalachian flatfoot poetry and hip hop. Being the romantic that she is, Bee hopes someday her longtime crush, Owen, the star quarterback of the Lions, will notice her. Meanwhile, her best friend Kate is already in a serious relationship with her new boyfriend, Torian. After accidentally causing an accident that puts Owen in the hospital, unable to speak, Bee suddenly finds herself pretending to be Owen's girlfriend to help the Lions compete for the State Championship. Things get further complicated when Owen's real girlfriend, Jade, discovers Bee's involvement with Owen, and Bee develops feelings for Owen's best friend, Nick.

Fun, hilarious, and thoroughly engrossing, Boyfriend in a Body Cast is the perfect book for young adult rom-com fans. Author Nicole Schubert doesn't miss a beat and spins a captivating yarn full of romance, humor, and teenage drama. The narrative is an escalating chain of comical events in which our young protagonist, Bee, goes through a journey of self-discovery, navigating friendship, love, and duty. It's a story about following one's heart and doing the best that one can under challenging circumstances. I really enjoyed Bee's scenes with Nick and found her friendship with Kate adorable. Schubert has an engaging writing style that will appeal to both young and older readers, with a generous sprinkling of humor and charm that makes the narrative all the more entertaining. Young adult contemporary romance readers will savor this with relish.
