Everyone is special in their own way. You can’t ask a mother who her favorite is – it’s such an unfair question, impossible to answer. But, in Aisha Toombs' Brown Brainy Brilliant Bunnies, that’s exactly what the three bunnies, Artsy, Sporty, and Nerdi, ask their mother. Ever the diplomat, Mama Bunny spells out the charms of each of the siblings, telling them what she loves best about them. Artsy is colorful with his flavor for art, Sporty is fair and generous in all that she does, and Nerdi is the brains of the three, smart and clever. So, how could anyone choose a favorite?

Aisha Toombs' picture book, Brown Brainy Brilliant Bunnies, is all about unique and individual qualities and how each of us is special in our own way. The story is told in rhyming verse and is a conversation between Mama Bunny and her three young bunnies. The language is simple to help young readers follow along and improve their reading skills. The delightful illustrations by Shalaya Holliday are bright, bold, and colorful and add a splash of zest to each bunny’s accolades. This is a great story to teach young readers how important they all are, just as Mama Bunny sums it up with: “Because ALL of you – to me – are Dear!” It also reinforces the importance of friendship (even amongst siblings), family, and working through problems, like the dilemma over who Mama Bunny loves the most. An inspiring and fun read. I loved it!
