Wolf of the Nordic Seas by Jennifer Ivy Walker is the second book of the Valiant Vikings series, preceded by book one, Dragon of Denmark. In the first installment, Skårde, the illegitimate son of King Harald Bluetooth, is a Viking warlord known as the Dragon of Denmark, famous for his battles and raids. When his father arranges his marriage to Ylva, the daughter of Richard the Fearless, Skårde views it as exile. Ylva, a Druid priestess with prophetic abilities, must leave her village for this union. As the Frankish king attacks Normandy, Skårde forms an alliance with magical beings to reclaim Richard's fortress. Njörd, known as the Wolf of the Nordic Seas, grew up mastering the fjords of Norway. Renowned for his strength and speed, he led successful Viking raids across vast territories. A seidr vision from a völva reveals that his future and his destined mate lie on the coast of Normandy. Elfi Thorfinnsdóttir, a shieldmaiden seeking vengeance for her family, allies with Njörd and Richard the Fearless. Together, they discover their fated connection tied to an ancient prophecy.

I was fortunate enough to have lost myself in book one of the Valiant Vikings series, so when Jennifer Ivy Walker's Wolf of the Nordic Seas fell into my lap, saying I was thrilled is an understatement. This book continues in Walker's trademark ability to mix brilliant world-building, mouth-watering sizzle, and characters that, frankly, become people you adore. Njörd's strength as a warrior, a ruggedness that makes his deep sensitivity all the more delicious, and the bonding of the mystical white wolf is the icing. Njörd’s relationship with Elfi, who is his fated mate and, admittedly, my absolute favorite character, is beautiful. Elfi has her own storyline, and the prevalence of knowing of her sea goddess grandmother, Rán, feels right at home in the book as a whole. Overall, Walker's textured history and atmosphere, whether it is a sacred grove or ethereal caves, create a world that feels both mystical and real, pulling readers into another unforgettable journey. Very highly recommended.

Wolf of the Nordic Seas by Jennifer Ivy Walker is a steamy paranormal romance set in tenth-century Normandy. We're with Njörd, who is a powerful Viking warrior with extraordinary senses and strength, known as the Wolf of the Nordic Seas. When a völva’s prophecy reveals that his fate and true mate lie across the sea in Normandy, Njörd decides that he must take on a dangerous journey to seek out his destiny. There, he meets Elfi Thorfinnsdóttir, a fierce shieldmaiden seeking revenge against the Frankish count who killed her brother. As they fight alongside Richard the Fearless, their fates become intertwined not just as allies but as destined mates meant to fulfill a divine prophecy.

Author Jennifer Ivy Walker has a great sense of where to pick the best bits of history to inform her epic and romantic storytelling, and the vivid depiction of Viking culture and mythology immerses you in a setting that enhances every rough and rugged moment of this story. I liked the character focus and the balance of attitudes and emotions between the central pair, and the obvious passion between Njörd and Elfi is even more fiery because of sharp dialogue touches and great narrative detail. There's also a lot to be said for how the fantasy elements play into the story with the idea of prophecy and power, and these supernatural elements naturally add intrigue and mysticism that feels logical to the story without detracting from history. I also really enjoyed the action-packed battle scenes, and the political alliances were a pleasantly complex addition to the romance plot that added even more emotional weight. Overall, Wolf of the Nordic Seas is a sophisticated and accomplished romance novel that fans enjoying multiple genres are sure to appreciate.

Wolf of the Nordic Seas is the second book in the Valiant Vikings series by Jennifer Ivy Walker. Set in tenth-century Normandy, the story follows an intimidating Norse warrior fated to find his destiny across the seas. Gifted with superhuman abilities and renowned for his prowess, Njörd’s path is set by a prophecy that leads him to Normandy, where he meets the fierce shieldmaiden Elfi Thorfinnsdóttir. Determined to avenge her slain brother and reclaim her family’s honor, Elfi refuses to succumb to a ruthless Frankish count’s marriage demand. Instead, she forges an alliance with Viking leaders, including Njörd, to protect her homeland. As the two uncover secrets from their pasts, they realize their fates are intertwined by forces beyond their understanding, leading them toward a future shaped by prophecy, passion, and war.

Jennifer Ivy Walker's mesmerizing story seamlessly merges historical detail with mythological elements. The novel excels in its world-building, immersing readers in the harsh yet enchanting Viking era. The story is full of seafaring adventures, epic battles, and political tension, as well as romance. Elfi stands out as a compelling protagonist. She is strong, determined, and unwilling to bow to fate without a fight, whereas Njörd embodies the perfect blend of ruthless warrior and fated protector. Their chemistry is electrifying, and their romance unfolds naturally amid high-stakes action and supernatural elements. The vivid descriptions of Viking raids and the Norman landscape create an immersive read. The exploration of Norse mythology and the prophecy of destined mates adds a layer of romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. The author skillfully balances action, romance, and historical detail, creating a compelling and engaging story. I wholeheartedly recommend this novel to my fellow romance enthusiasts.

Wolf of the Nordic Seas is the gripping second installment in Jennifer Ivy Walker's Valiant Vikings series, which follows Elfi Thorfinnsdóttir, the heiress of Étretat, as she faces a dire predicament when the ruthless Count of Soissons captures her father. To secure her father’s release and protect her castle from further attacks, Elfi must navigate the treacherous waters of forced marriage to the count or challenge her fate by accepting help from Njörd Ívarrsson, a formidable Danish jarl known as the Wolf of the Nordic Seas. As alliances form and the threat of war looms over Normandy, Elfi must come to terms with her identity as a warrior and the responsibilities that come with leadership. As Elfi and Njörd unearth shocking revelations about their histories, they realize that the three Norns have intricately woven the strands of their destinies together, not merely as political partners but as soulmates fated to fulfill a divine prophecy. Do they have what it takes to succeed against the odds stacking up against them with every passing moment?

The characterization in Jennifer Ivy Walker's narrative is nuanced and complex. Elfi is portrayed as a fierce shieldmaiden with a strong will, battling against the constraints imposed on women in her society. Her complex emotions—rage, sorrow, and an undeniable yearning for autonomy—drive her development throughout the story. Conversely, Njörd is the quintessential Viking hero: brave, strong, and deeply bound to his destiny. He is also genuinely flawed, and his newfound feelings for Elfi make life a bit challenging for him. The bond between these two is electrifying; their chemistry grows as they develop through mutual support and training. Wolf of the Nordic Seas boasts excellent writing, filled with descriptive passages. The setting of late 9th-century Normandy is vividly crafted, with its majestic castles, stormy seas, and dense forests, immersing the reader in a world rife with political intrigue and mythical elements. Walker has delivered another immersive tale in the series, crafting memorable characters and a world that draws the reader in irresistibly.
