Buffie and Casey: Fur Ever Friends by Ione Ellis is a cute little children’s book. The story is about a Siamese kitten, Buffie, who is picked on by the other kittens in the pet store just because her eyes are crossed. Buffie’s best friend, Casey, who is also a Siamese kitten, reassures Buffie that she is beautiful. When Lou and Suzanne adopt Buffie, it is because she is unique with her crossed eyes.
I think that Buffie and Casey: Fur Ever Friends has a good message. Ellis teaches kids that what makes them different is also what makes them special. It also touches on bullying and how it makes the one being bullied feel. I read this book with my 3-year-old who loves cats and she adored the pictures. The artwork in the book looks hand drawn which I personally love. The artist clearly has talent and put a lot of detail into the faces of Lou and Suzanne. It is nice to see a book with a different kind of art.
Buffie and Casey: Fur Ever Friends is a good book for children. It is an easy read, only 24 pages. I especially loved the surprise ending that Ellis wrote. This book also teaches children to pay attention to their pet’s needs and that animals can have special friendships with each other too. My child pays more attention when an animal is the lead character than when a person is. I would like to see more books with adventures like Buffie has.
